Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People’s Committee Receives Nobel Laureate in Physics Serge Haroche
On the morning of October 9, 2025, at the headquarters of Gia Lai Provincial People’s Committee, Chairman Pham Anh Tuan received Professor Serge Haroche, the 2012 Nobel Laureate in Physics, and other foreign scientists on the occasion of their participation in the international conference entitled “100 Years of Quantum Physics” held at the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE). The meeting was also attended by leaders of the Departments of Foreign Affairs and Science and Technology, the Office of the Provincial People’s Committee, and universities in the province.

At the reception, Chairman Pham Anh Tuan emphasized that science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation constitute key pillars in Gia Lai Province’s socio-economic development orientation. He noted that the province has supported and will continue to actively support ICISE in implementing scientific and technological research tasks associated with practical needs, thereby contributing to sustainable development in line with Resolution No. 57 of the Politburo. The Chairman expressed his hope that Professor Serge Haroche would share his insights to support the development of basic science research capacity in the province and contribute to the training of outstanding students of Quy Nhon University. He also requested that the Professor introduce talented scientists to Gia Lai Province to work and collaborate on research in the future, affirming that the province stands ready to welcome them and create the most favorable conditions for their activities.

In response, Professor Serge Haroche expressed his appreciation for Gia Lai Province’s special attention to developing ICISE into a leading center for basic science research. He noted that basic science research requires a long-term process, perseverance, and a free academic environment, without excessive administrative constraints, while emphasizing the importance of discovering, nurturing, and utilizing young scientific talent. During the exchange, the Professor stated that he would introduce fellow scientists and colleagues to visit and conduct scientific research in Gia Lai Province, and expressed his intention to return with his family in the near future to further explore the province’s culture and people.
