Linking forests and seas to boost tourism in Gia Lai

Following the administrative unit merger, Gia Lai is facing unprecedented development opportunities with its expanded geographical space and the creation of a strong synergy of resources in society. Accordingly, tourism has been identified as one of the five key economic pillars of the province for the period 2026-2030, with a vision to 2045.

The transformation of tourism in Gia Lai province stems from the unique blend of mountains and sea. The province currently boasts a diverse ecosystem, ranging from the Kon Ha Nung Plateau World Biosphere Reserve (with Kon Ka Kinh National Park and Kon Chu Rang Conservation Area), Chu Dang Ya volcano, and Bien Ho Lake, to a 135km coastline with famous landmarks such as Ky Co, Eo Gió, and Thi Nai Lagoon (formerly part of Binh Dinh province).

With its 135km long coastline and modern urban infrastructure, coastal tourism has become a new pillar, perfectly complementing Gia Lai's highland tourism in the new era.

In addition, the heritage of Bài Chòi, Hát Bội, traditional martial arts, and the Cham Pa relic system also provide a solid foundation for developing experiential tourism products that connect heritage and relaxation in depth.

The system of ancient Cham tower relics is an important piece that adds cultural depth to the province's tourism, alongside other heritage sites such as Bài Chòi and Hát Bội.

According to the Gia Lai Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in recent times, the unit has advised on and finalized a development plan focusing on policies supporting community tourism, agriculture, and training internationally-standard human resources. In this plan, the business community plays a bridging role, designing inter-regional tours and routes, maximizing the advantages of both mountainous and coastal tourism.

Lake Pleiku, also known as the “Eyes of Pleiku”, remains a key ecological highlight, attracting tourists with its pristine beauty and fresh air.

It is known that 2026 has been chosen as a pivotal year when Gia Lai will host the National Tourism Year with the theme “Gia Lai - Converging Identity, Spreading Green”.

The biodiversity in Kon Ka Kinh National Park and Kon Chư Răng Conservation Area provides a foundation for developing sustainable nature-based experiential tourism products.

The event is scheduled to take place from March to December 2026. Accordingly, Gia Lai province aims to welcome 15 million visitors, generating revenue of 40,000 billion VND. This figure not only affirms its position as a new tourism hub in the region but also significantly contributes to the overall goal of welcoming 150 million domestic and 25 million international tourists nationwide.
