The Pô Cô River is over 300km long, originating from the North of Kon Tum province, flowing west through the Truong Son mountain range to Gia Lai province. The Po Co River Dugout Canoe Racing Festival was held for the first time in 2019. This is a traditional cultural festival associated with the name of Hero A Sanh - the character in the song "The Ferryman on the Pô Cô River" by musician Cam Phong.

Held from November 1 to 3 every year at the Pô Cô River alluvial plain, Dăng village, La O commune, the Dugout Canoe Racing Festival is definitely an interesting destination if you are looking for Gia Lai festivals. With a not-so-small scale, this festival has attracted hundreds of athletes and a large number of tourists to participate and cheer every year.

Regarding the rules, each racing team will consist of two veteran rowers working together to conquer a race distance of 1,000m to 2,000m (depending on the year) on the Pô Cô River. The number of participating teams is about 40 - 43 teams from localities such as Ia Grai, Đức Cơ (Gia Lai) and H'Drai (Kon Tum). The tournament is divided into three rounds of competition, the 6 strongest teams will enter the final round of class A, the remaining 10 teams will continue to compete in class B. The first prize is awarded the ASanh cup, a gold medal and a prize of about 10 million VND. In particular, the attractive performances and food stalls also contribute to making the boat racing festival one of the hottest traditional festivals in Gia Lai today.

The Dugong Boat Racing Festival on the Pô Cô River was established to commemorate Hero ASanh, a boat rower on Pô Cô during the war, who used wooden boats to transport soldiers and supplies for the resistance. This activity also aims to preserve the cultural beauty of local people, who are experts in crafting primitive means of transport, specifically wooden boats used for traveling on the river.
