The relic is located in the center of Pleiku City, about 300m south of Gia Lai Provincial Post Office. You can reach the relic by car, motorbike or on foot.
In 1925, the French built Pleiku Prison to detain common criminals, mainly ethnic people. By 1940, the revolutionary movement of ethnic people had developed strongly, at that time the French colonialists used this place to detain patriots.
In June 1948, the Pleiku Prison Party cell was established.

On March 15, 1975, in the face of the bustling atmosphere of the Central Highlands campaign, at 5:00 p.m., political prisoners at Pleiku Prison broke out and organized a group to the outskirts, welcoming a wing of our army from Tra Ba intersection to join the local army and people to liberate Pleiku town.
On December 12, 1994, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued Decision No. 321/QD-BT recognizing the historical relic: Pleiku Prison, located in Dien Hong Ward, Pleiku City.
